Faculty Research Service Learning at Duke - Scholarship with a Civic Mission

Why get involved in Research Service-Learning?

There are a number of reasons for Duke faculty to get involved in Research Service-Learning.

  • Research service-learning provides an excellent opportunity to link your research and/or teaching with local, national, or international civic and community issues.

  • RSL projects give you the chance to help Duke students develop valuable research and ethical inquiry skills and become more meaningfully engaged in the world.

  • RSL courses and projects are designed to meet an immediate need in the community, which allows you the opportunity to use your research skills to address an issue of real relevance.

  • RSL is a chance to work closely with a student or a small group, a mentoring experience that some faculty do not have access to with large classes.

  • RSL projects connect you to a community of scholars and practitioners who are devoted to social issues.
