  • Project HOPE Research Symposium, January 2004. Margaret Andrews, Danielle Corneille, Catherine Cullen, Jamie Frank, and Candis presented their CBR projects.
  • America's Second Harvest and Food Research Action Committee conference. Presentation by Joseph Lee.
  • Third International Multi-Disciplinary Health Care Conference, March 2004, Johannesburg, South Africa. Presentation by Jennifer Farrell, the youngest participant and only undergraduate student invited to present at this WHO-sponsored meeting featuring representatives from 24 countries.
  • Presentations to Gateway Students, RSL Faculty, and Durham Public Schools by Tori Hogan.

Research Publications

  • Joseph Lee, a Duke senior, prepared a report based on his Research Service-Learning project with MANNA FoodBank in Asheville, NC. His report was posted by the America's Second Harvest Research and Policy Department.
  • A chapter on "Students as Engaged Citizens" by Betsy Alden, Coordinator for Service-Learning and RSL faculty member, and Julie Norman, RSL Project Assistant. Will appear in Student leadership in Service-Learning, E. Zlotkowski, N. Longo, and J. Williams, Eds. (Campus Compact, 2004).
  • Colleges with a Conscience: An Engaged Student's Guide, to be published by Princeton Review and Random House.
  • A guide to civic engagement programming to be published by the American Democracy Project of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) in collaboration with The New York Times will feature a contribution by Co-PI Alma Blount. The monograph, which builds on a June 2004 Wingspread Conference on Creating Civically-Engaged Campuses, will be distributed to the 183 member institutions of AASCU.
